about

Bam! Crash boom screeech! (Ting!) = Need New Body. Difficult to define and eccentric to experience. This band is a phenomenon for your senses. For the sake of your dancing shoes, for the love of explosive beats, and to remember why exactly is it you love music – Need New Body is an important outfit for this day and age of the musically redundant, mundane and regurgitated.

Philly represent! Well, kind of. New Jersey, actually, is where each member originated – eventually trickling into the Philadelphia metro. In 1996, (percussionist) Chris Powell met (keyboardist) Dale Jimenez, (keyboardist) Jamey Robinson, and (vocalist/multi-instrumentalist) Jeff Bradbury through mutual friends around the in New Brunswick (NJ) area. Eventually playing in Bent Leg Fatima together and relocating to Philadelphia around 1999. Mutual differences occurred, and Robinson left the band causing Bent Leg Fatima to disband after only one release. After a few months passed the members casually began to play together again this time around adding (bassist) Chris Reggiani and (percussionist) Jim Reggiani. Not feeling the full commitment of a band until they decided to record, when it was time to take their act out – they chose to go under different names each time (such as MILF, Red Fumunda, King Cranium, New Wave Hippies, and Obey Your Brain). Once the self-titled album was recorded in the summer of 2000, the band decided on the name Need New Body. (Which stems from a magical place, you should ask them about it.) Consistently touring in support of their self-titled debut followed the 2001 release, this had the band on bills with Deerhoof, !!!(Chk-Chk-Chk), Animal Collective, Hella, Lightning Bolt, & Joan of Arc in the following years. Returning again to record their follow-up effort in 2002, NNB took their time to refine the unique sound they are known for creating. A highly anticipated release in the fall of 2003, named “UFO”, propelled the band into performances on tour and at music festivals like CMJ & SXSW showed that the band has come to critical acclaim by long-time and brand-new fans, journalists and fellow musicians all around. Shortly after touring in support of this effort, the Reggiani brothers departed the line-up. This led to the addition of bassist Griffin Rodgriguez (Icy Demons, Babilcon, HIM), inevitable, really because Rodriguez had his hands in recording the last few Need New Body albums and shares a band with Powell in Icy Demons.

Dance M.F. Dance! Live is where it’s at! Need New Body is widely known for their stunning theatrical live show. They’ve been known for wearing elaborate costumes, using irregular instrumentation, and having an overall fiery and thoroughly entertaining performance. Hearing about it from your most descriptive friend, however explicit, will never suffice; Photographs alone cannot document what occurs during a live exhibition; Even a show videotaped would not bring you close enough to this experience. The only way to fully engulf yourself into the phenomenon is to be there yourself.
