As Northwest youth, both Corey J. Brewer and I spent years of our lives listening to identity-forming albums from Kill Rock Stars. This made choosing a track from 30 years of albums was no easy task. I surfed through my CD collection and pulled every disc with the star on the spine. I considered Mecca Normal or Tight Bros from Way Back When, but we both wanted to do a noisy pop song with punk sensibilities and so The Frumpies became the obvious choice. "Whatshisname Hearts the Frumpies" is a legendary track with the catchiest hook a west coaster could dream of. I imagine myself at 90 years old, no idea where or who I am, but I’ll still be singing “East Bay Boyfriend…” and searching through my wallet for a BART card that I never had in the first place.
