about

The self titled CD by Owl & the Pussycat is the first release from this inter-species duo. It contains 13 songs that have guitar, flute, bass, piano and voice. But no drums. Just paws and wings.

Recorded on a lonely island in Canada, the players flung open the doors of the beach cabin studio to let in the sounds of the friendly eagles that soared by and the charming sea otters that scampered below. Owl and Pussycat would record some tracks, go kayaking, record a bit more, hunt for clams, record a bit more and then bed down for the night. (After watching Wild On...)

The Songs.

Owl claims that her songs were inspired by the following:
The passing of Miss Peggy Lee
A sketchy pub in Cork, Ireland
The Albany Landfill
Salt water
Frenchmen
The acronym "FYI"

Pussycat (always in gentler spirits) was inspired by:
A raccoon brandishing a pistol
Strong coffee
Oil paint fumes
Books about the Beatles
Crochet hats

The Owl and the Pussycat extend their thanks to the Galiano Island Hutterite Men's Choir for their backup vocals on "Company". All other musical contributions to the album were made by Owl and Pussycat.

The Owl
The Owl has been writing and performing acoustic music for 10 years. She has made 5 albums and a handful of releases on other formats. She likes collaborating with other artists and in the past year has recorded dance tracks with Andy Gill and done backing vocals on songs by Canadian conceptual artist Rodney Graham. She wrote a book about Beat Happening and is an accomplished cook. Owl likes both kinds of music: rap and metal.

The Pussycat
The Pussycat and his brother (Thom Cat) are in a phenomenal rock band called The Moore Brothers. Amazing Grease Records released their debut album in 2001 and a follow up LP is due in April. Pussycat is a German translator and visual artist. His favorite band in all the world is The Cocteau Twins.

Pussycat met Owl in 1995 when he handed her a cassette of his music after a show. It took Owl six years to track down the mysterious Pussycat so she could ask him to make a record with her. The private detective that Owl hired proved to be unreliable, but she was ultimately rewarded by dumb luck. Pussycat was born and reared in the Greater Los Angeles area and currently resides in Oakland, CA.
